Who’s to blame for Fall Massive 2009? Steez or The Paradox?

I say Steez Promo. This is the fourth Massive I've been to in Baltimore and the fifth large event put on by Steez (Fall, Spring, Summer, Fall, Starscape)  and this is the fourth event with serious issues. In the Summer, Joe Nice didn't have equipment that worked so we sat in silence while one random kid was chanting his name. This turned his set from an hour and a half to about 3o minutes. Spring Massive SHUT DOWN the stage Joe Nice was on after about 30 minutes, Starscape was a complete incoherent and convoluted mess where the artists were too wasted to play, children were in strollers were allowed in, sitting next to many people doing many things not suited for a child, and now the most recent event, Fall Massive. Supposed to end at 6am, it was shut down officially at 2am by the fire marshall - for overselling the venue by 1,000 people - and this was after the partygoers were waiting in line for hours. I was in line from 9 until 11.

I've read that Steez shouldn't be blamed and that it's actually the Paradox who deserves the finger pointing. I say that if you're putting your name on the event, you need to take more proactive steps in helping with said event. It doesn't take an overachiever to find out what the capacity of a venue is... especially when you've used that venue time and time again. We can't actually say that it's only the Paradox in fact, since Starscape was just as chaotic (calm down rave kids, not the good kind of chaotic). I spoke with people from Northern California, North Carolina, etc. that came just for a good time at an event with a great lineup. Our total drive was 10 hours. Ten hours for three hours of music. But wait, they're doing a makeup event (allegedly), awesome. So if all of the attendees want to take this event up, they have to travel from all over the country for a party backed by a group of people that have let their last four major events slip by. No thanks Steez. If you need help running your event, call me.

I must say, I bought my ticket ahead of time and waited in the GA line with people coming from all up and down the east coast.  What REALLY threw me off was when a guy from STEEZ PROMO, who claimed he, “ran shit here,” started at the beginning of the line selling a roll of little paper tickets, like the kind you would get at a carnival or an arcade for winning ski ball.  He assured people that they were legit and would get them in, which they were/did, but he charged $40, a $10 dollar mark up from what I paid one day in advance.  (I do realize they may have been $40 at the door, but it seems steep.)  So what urks me about this is that I have friends who were further back in line who had ALSO bought their tickets in advance, and were never even allowed in because the place had reached/surpassed capacity.  What the hell?  Why are you pulling tickets out of your ass and selling them overpriced to people in line when you don’t even know how many “spaces” you have left in the club for those who already purchased tickets?  Seems like SLEEZ PROMO was tryna make some cash because they KNEW that the place wasn’t going to last for another two hours ( I got in the club around midnight), or they just had no idea what was going on due to disorganization and unprofessionalism.  Its a damn shame that it worked out this way.  If it was an honest mistake, then they sure as hell better pull threw with this makeup party on Jan 17th.

Chew,

I agree that they may have been trying to get all of the money they possibly could have. They must have known the capacity after throwing all of the events there. I mean, aren’t venues legally mandated to display their capacities?

They will be offering a make up event in January 17. But if you’re like me and have had enough from Steez, they are also refunding dissatisfied customers (and from the chanting while walking out, I’d imagine they’re gonna lose their ass).

Thanks for the post.

Glenn
